Getting Started with Template Sets

Loyalty allows marketers to create content for different types of platform assets, such as Offers, Rewards, and Challenges. In many cases, this content is displayed to Members via a website or branded app.

Content is controlled and managed in Loyalty by means of a Template Set. A Template Set is an HTML document that controls what message layouts, styles, and content elements are available to the marketer when they are creating content for an asset.

A Template Set contains the necessary HTML code to describe one or more Layouts. A Layout represents a specific context in which content is displayed to a Member, such as a website, mobile device, or email message, for example. A Layout defines the size and shape of the content, as well as the formatting and visual appearance of its interface elements, such as text fields, buttons, and images.

A Layout can optionally be designed with multiple variations (referred to as Templates), which provide the marketer with options when using that Layout. For example, you could have a Layout that includes an image, some text, and a button. Within that Layout, you could have one Template that has the image on the left, and the text / button on the right, then have another Template that is a mirror image, with the image on the right, and the text / button on the left.

Within the Loyalty platform, Layouts are presented to marketers in the Content Editor screen. This screen provides a user-friendly interface for creating and manipulating content and other visual elements, and is intended for use by non-technical users. The Content Editor is very flexible, and can support a variety of use cases. For example, some clients use the screen to define everything about a message, including the content and the appearance; other clients will enter only the text content, and will rely on a stylesheet within their website to control the visual appearance.

Loyalty supports a default Template Set for each platform asset type, but these Template Sets can also be modified to meet your specific business requirements. In most cases, the Template Set is defined as part of your Loyalty implementation. Any changes that need to be made to a Template Set are typically made by a technical resource, or by your Marigold team, by uploading a new HTML document into the platform.

The platform also supports a dedicated Template Set named "Color Palettes" that is used to define one or more Color Palettes. A Color Palette is a set of five text / background colors defined within your Loyalty account. A Color Palette is designed to make it easy for users to select a set of preferred colors, typically that match your company’s branding guidelines.
